Abstract A method for monitoring optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR) using a Mach-Zehnder interferometer was presented. The distinctness of signal interference was measured for each bit rate. Results showed that the method was simple, robust, lowest with right accuracy and large dynamic range. The error was observed to be less than 0.5 dB.
