Abstract Lower Triassic sandstones deposited in meandering river channels are the main reservoirs of the KG (Kef El Argoub) Oilfield which is located at the northern Block 438b, Oued Mya Basin, Algeria. The sand bodies are thin and strong in lateral heterogeneity. It is difficult to be identified by simply applying seismic data and conventional seismic attributes, which will lead to a large difference between the prediction result and drilling result. A fluid mobility attribute technique is developed and applied in order to precisely characterize and evaluate the distribution of T1 sand bodies. Study shows that lithology assemblage showed in the fluid mobility attribute section is clearly corresponding to seismic wave group. Fluid mobility attributes help to identify favorable reservoirs and effectively adjust the drilling track of horizontal well. The predicting productivity is equivalent to actual productivity. Fluid mobility attributes could be applied to reservoir characterization of oil fields similar to the KG Oilfield.
