Abstract Polymer gel is widely used for conformance control nowadays, but it is not suitable for high temperature reservoir (over 100 celsius degree). In order to solve the above problems, a novel organic/inorganic cross-linking blocking agent is proposed and developed in this paper combined the advantages of organic and inorganic blocking agents. This novel organic/inorganic cross-linking blocking agent is composed of organic resin, suicide and stabilizer. The optimized formula of this agent at 130 celsius degree was screened through gelation performance and thermal stability in the lab. The appropriate mass fraction of organic resin was 4%??7%, the suicide was 1%??5% and the stabilizer was 0.1%??0.3% in the formulas. It is also confirmed that this novel agent is comfortable for in-depth profile control in 100-140 celsius degree reservoir with gelation time of 8-60 h and there is no dehydration phenomenon at 130 celsius degree aging for 3 months. Sand-packed core experiments indicate that this novel agent has good blocking performance, which can further enhance oil recovery. This novel agent had been applied in production well in Oct 2010, by late 2011, the accumulated oil increment is 3081.5 t, the water cut decreased from 98.7% to 80.5% and the input-output ratio is up to 1 : 3.6. The success of field test confirmed that this novel organic/inorganic cross-linking blocking agent is quite suitable for controlling water and has a broad application prospect.
