Abstract Most of existing network intrusion detection expert systems adopt single inference mechanism. However, both rule-based and case-based inference mechanisms have their disadvantages, and therefore these single inference mechanisms may lower the accuracy of intrusion detection. This paper proposes a rule-based and case-based mixed inference mechanism, and designs Anides, a novel agent-based network intrusion detection expert system. The experimental results prove that Anides is effective and helpful in intrusion detection. ? 2012 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l. - All rights reserved.
