Abstract Structural change between the raw coal and oxidation coal was compared by Fourier transform infrared spectrometry(FTIR), and the apexes at 1580 cm-1 and 1400 cm-1 indicated that there was a lot of carboxyl in the oxidation coal. After the raw coal was prepared with mild alkali, the separation conditions were selected on the base of FTIR, and the better high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was established. A series of compounds with m/z difference at 58 were analyzed by electrospray-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (ESI( - )-MS/MS), and the apex with m/z 268.4 was selected to deduce the structure of the series of substance. Results show that the compound with m/z 268.4 was C15 H11NO4.
