Abstract As described by hydrostatic equation, the drop of central surface pressure of tropical cyclone is related to the warming in the upper troposphere. Based on the averaged profile of warmer anomaly derived from aircraft reconnaissance, a profile model of warmer anomaly controlled by a single parameter-anomaly at 250 hPa level is established. An algorithm of minimum central surface pressure of cyclone is developed. A retrieval of the minimum central surface pressure of the tropical cyclone over north-west part of the Pacific between 2001-2003 is tested. The surface pressure estimated from AMSU data of NOAA-16/17 is compared with Dvorak (1984) and shows the discrepancy of 11 hPa. The time series of retrieved surface pressure show similar tendency of the tropical cyclone as Dvorak method.
