Abstract The high spin states of Pd-106 have been investigated with in-beam gamma-ray spectroscopic methods using the Mo-100(B-11, 1(p)4(n))Pd-106 reaction at a beam energy of 60 MeV. All earlier known bands were extended considerably and additional bands were identified. The configurations of these bands are discussed on the basis of the experimental aligned angular momenta and total Routhian surface calculations. Both two-quasineutron and two-quasiproton structures have been found in Pd-106. The nonyrast low-lying positive-parity band was interpreted as a gamma-vibrational band.
